Just because we're amateurs it doesn't mean we're amateurs
I almost never get upset by critics these days, but one really stung me.
My hobby is to get together with friends (aged nine to 60) and make music under various names, including the Wokstarz, No Idle Fret, the Ding Dong Belles, etc.
We’re at a very humble “church youth club” level, but we’re happy: several songs got more than 10,000 hits on YouTube.
Well, a guy I have always respected accused me of only having one style: 1960s Brit-pop.
He said every song I’d ever produced made him think of Twiggy and London taxis in the 1960s.
So mean! Being an idiot, I let this depress me—until musician friends pointed out yesterday that it was obviously unfair.
