Nury Vittachi is a literary giant…albeit a short one.
His keen observation and barbed wit have filled newspaper and magazine columns as well as books for adults and children in a long career that has entrenched his celebrity and status as a writer worth reading.
The former journalist who lived a gypsy’s existence before honeymooning in Hong Kong, stayed on, adopted three Chinese girls, and has led a lively literary life filled with books, articles and some notoriety.
He also lectures students at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School Of Design on writing stories.
Hong Kong and its colourful characters have come to life in the pages of his books, and his newspaper columns.
His latest book,The Curious Diary Of Mr Jam is a collection of his columns delivered like a diary of anecdotes that is easy to get into at any point for a good laugh…and some consideration.
The book’s tagline explains Nury rather well: “He tried to bring comedy to Asia but everyone just laughed at him.”
